With sandy beaches with moderate slopes, gentle waves all year round making an ideal beach to bath, Con Den (Thai Binh) gradually attracts more and more travelers.
Although Thai Binh is not famous for sea and beach tourism, this land has many beautiful sea dunes in the North of Vietnam. Besides Con Vanh in Tien Hai, lovers of pristine beauty along with coastal mangrove ecosystem in Thai Binh should not ignore Con Den, a place to create new sensations for weekend travel in the hot days, in Thai Thuy district.
Con Den is about 150 km from Hanoi and about 40 km from Thai Binh city, so visitors can easily go to Con Den by both public and private vehicles. Along Highway 1 from Hanoi to Phu Ly, you turn on Highway 21, go straight to the city of Nam Dinh then turn left on Highway 10 to Thai Binh city.
From here, you go to Highway 39B and ride straightly towards the embankment to reach Con Den. Another simpler way is to take the bus Hanoi – Thai Binh, then catch bus number 5 from the city to Luc market bus station, and catch a motorbike taxi to come to Con Den (approximately 7 km).
Formed by tectonic silt and sediment of Tra Ly river under the action of the flow in the river and hydrodynamic regime of coastal areas, Con Den has relatively flat terrain. In hot days, going along Con Den of about 3km, you will feel cooler when watching the white waves rushing to shore and green pine trees swinging in the sea breeze.
With the diversity of mangroves, this is an opportunity for everyone to explore the natural world in coastal Con Den. On the sand, beach morning glory flowers blooming create poetic beauty for the shore, in water, cypress, mangroves… form a “green wall” as a barrier to prevent storms. It is also home to 500 species of aquatic plants, seaweed and 200 kinds of birds, including many rare species of birds listed in the Red Book of the world making up the unique appeal to tourists.
With its sandy beaches, moderate slopes, gentle waves all year round, Con Den is also a very appropriate place to swim in the summer. You can also organize a picnic and games and entertainment on the beach such as fishing, beach volleyball after hours of playing with the waves.
Con Den is the area where still keep diverse cultural values of Red River Delta, so coming to Con Den, you should not forget to visit the historical sites and traditional villages in Thai Binh province. The near locations include the tourist spots in Thai Thuy district such as Nguyen Duc Canh memorial area, Bao Linh Pagoda, He, Het, Ha Dong, Tam Toa… Temples, and Tu and Dong communal houses.
The farther sites can be listed as Con Vanh in Tien Hai, Tran Temple in Hung Ha then Hoi mat village, Keo Pagoda and Bach Thuan Botanical Garden in Vu Thu, Dong Xam silver carving village and Thuong Hien rattan village in Kien Xuong, or you can go to Khuoc village in Dong Hung to enjoy the melodies of “Chèo” (a traditional folk music in Northern Vietnam).
Though affordable restaurants and stores selling the necessary services for visitors are available around Con Den, if you intend to visit other tourist attractions, the town of Diem Dien and Thai Binh city are where you can enjoy the famous specialties such as cáy rice- the famous specialty of Thai Binh, fish soup, salad, jellyfish salad, noodles with banana inflorescence.
